TISSUE CULTURE LAB

SETIA ALAM LAB

Gain Green Development governs Research & Development (R&D) and production labs in Setia Alam, Selangor (“Headquarter Laboratory”) that can produce 250,000 explants per month. The R&D lab initiates the clean culture and is responsible for propagation protocols establishment for in vitro culture. The clean culture obtained this way is delivered as stock explants to the production lab for further multiplication. Once the explants grow into fully developed plantlets, they are transferred to the nursery for acclimatization.

Both R&D and production labs have function rooms that are fully equipped with a complete set of tissue culture lab amenities for medium preparation, autoclaving, explants dissecting, culture growing, washing and zone buffering.

MEDIUM PREPARATION ROOM

The lab area is equipped with weight balances, pH meter, RO water generator, water distiller, stirrer, mixer, and other lab apparatus for chemical solutions and culture media preparation. The prepared culture media will be transferred into the suitable bottle for sterilization before poured into the culture containers and used in explants culturing.

AUTOCLAVING ROOM

The lab area is equipped with autoclave machines to sterilize culture media, solutions, and lab apparatus with steam and pressure.

EXPLANT DISSECTING ROOM

The lab area is equipped with weight balances, pH meter, RO water generator, water distiller, stirrer, mixer, and other lab apparatus for chemical solutions and culture media preparation. The prepared culture media will be transferred into the suitable bottle for sterilization before poured into the culture containers and used in explants culturing.

CULTURE GROWTH ROOM

This is the lab’s biggest room, where cultures are monitored under optimal environmental conditions to achieve and provide optimal explants growth. The room is equipped with shelves with LED lighting, used for culture storage and arranging.

WASHING AREA

The lab area is designed for containers and apparatus washing. This area is also equipped with a drying oven to dry up the containers and apparatus after washing.

BUFFERING ZONE

The intermediate area is designed to keep functional areas clean. It includes the goods stock in/out and lab coat changing rooms. 

Revotropix Paulownia Seedlings Culture Lab

Gain Green Development collaborates with different organizations to establish branch production laboratory (branch lab) for Revotropix Paulownia seedlings production in East Malaysia, in Indonesia, and India. Presently, four branch labs have been successfully established in Limbang, Sibu and Kuching, Sarawak, and also Indonesia. Taking into account that there are high demands of tree seedlings for plantation forests in Miri, Kapit, Sarawak and Sabah as well as India, the Company is planning to venture its production labs there as well to fulfill these demands.

NURSERY

With the land of about 8 acres, the nursery is located in Tanjong Malim, Perak, and is ready to be expanded in order to fulfill the market demand. Presently, it has a capacity to cater minimum 1,000,000 hardened seedlings in the greenhouse unit.

The nursery comprises three major stages, which play an important role: culture room, acclimatization process, and hardening process in the greenhouse. An acclimatization process is required for most species grown in vitro in order to ensure sufficient survival rate of the plants and their dynamic growth once when transplanted to soil.

 

Culture Room

 

The culture room is a sterile, controlled environment with optimal conditions where the explants stay before being transferred from dish to pot.

 

Acclimatization Unit

 

The Company applies a gradual acclimatization process to increase the percent of plantlets’ survivability in the nursery. For plantlets to adapt to the external environment, it is necessary to provide optimal humidity, lighting and temperature of the acclimatization zone and observe their growth.

 

Greenhouse Unit

 

This is where the hardening process occurs, during which the transplants (seedlings) are gradually exposed to outdoor conditions. It supports a change from soft, gentle growth to a harder growth and enables the seedlings to withstand the environmental challenges they will have when planted outside on the farm.

 

Acclimatization Unit

 

The Company applies a gradual acclimatization process to increase the percent of plantlets’ survivability in the nursery. For plantlets to adapt to the external environment, it is necessary to provide optimal humidity, lighting and temperature of the acclimatization zone and observe their growth.

 

Greenhouse Unit

 

This is where the hardening process occurs, during which the transplants (seedlings) are gradually exposed to outdoor conditions. It supports a change from soft, gentle growth to a harder growth and enables the seedlings to withstand the environmental challenges they will have when planted outside on the farm.

Temporary Nursery at Plantation

The hardened seedlings will be delivered to the plantation for planting after four weeks acclimatization in nursery. To ensure the smooth delivery process of hardened seedlings from the nursery to the plantation at different locations, Gain Green Development implements a systematic planning in order to minimize the risk of mortality during the transportation process.

Furthermore, the seedlings transferred to the plantation are cultivated in a temporary nursery with watering and pest/ insect control before being transplanted in the soil, which further improves seedlings’ survival rate during the planting process.
